Remembrance Sunday service to be held at St Mary's

THIS week, on Sunday 11th November, a very special Remembrance Sunday service will be held at St Mary's Church in Chapel Street, Penzance and will replace the ceremony traditionally held at the Battery Rocks War Memorial.

This year's change of venue is due to the current restrictions on accessing the War Memorial at Battery Rocks, where drilling is being carried out to provide geothermal heating for the Jubilee Pool.

Rev. Sian Yates, will be leading the commemorative service which starts at 10.45am and is open to everyone, regardless of their religious beliefs. The service will incorporate the traditional two-minute silence at 11am and culminate in the ringing of church bells across the nation.

Members of the public are also invited to symbolically lay a poppy around the Remembrance area in front of the church. Following the service, designated wreath layers will lay the wreaths at the War Memorial on behalf of the community.

Prior to the church service, there will be a Civic Parade taking place at 10.10am from St John's Hall to St Mary's Church.
