During the refurbishment of the markets normal home of St John's Hall during 2014/15, the market has a new home at The Acorn, Parade Street, Penzance TR18 4BU.
Penzance's beloved Country Market celebrated its 50th birthday in May 2010. Once a Women's Institute market, it is now part of Country Markets, a nationwide organization, and run as a co-operative, it is known for its welcoming atmosphere. Usually there are around half a dozen food stalls, each of which sells produce from 6 or so different producers, while up to 15 individuals contribute to the craft stalls.
Depending on the season, a wide variety of local plants and flowers, fruit, vegetables, herbs and salad leaves, free-range meat & poultry and plus dairy products, cakes and bread, honey, preserves, biscuits and homemade pesto are usually on offer. There is also a little cafe. This market is part of the Country Markets Hamper Scheme, a simple way to obtain a hamper of home-produced goods, tailor-made to customer requirements and delivered to the door.
"Ours is the longest running cooperative venture in West Cornwall featuring local produce from a wide variety of butchers and bakers, growers and crafters".
