Community and Environmental Enforcement Officer

Environmental crime, especially dog fouling, littering and fly tipping, is one of the most common issues of concern raised by residents. In response to this, Cornwall Council’s Localism Service and Penzance Town Council have secured funding for 12 months to employ an additional Community and Environmental Enforcement officer for the area covered by Penzance Town Council.

The Officer will carry out a range of targeted interventions throughout the Parish of Penzance to ensure that offences are identified and regulated and, where necessary, that appropriate enforcement action is taken (this could take the form of a Fixed Penalty Notice).

Working closely with groups and partners such as Cornwall Council, the Police, local groups such as Community Dog Watch schemes, beach cleaning volunteers, Penzance Community Flora Group, and other residents groups, the Enforcement Officer will also be delivering education and awareness ‘campaigns’ to the public with a particular emphasis on liaising with schools and the media.

Anyone aware of specific areas where environmental crimes are an issue, is asked to report them to the Town Clerk’s Office by telephoning 01736 363405 or by email to marked ‘for the attention of the Environmental Enforcement Officer.
